Dreaming Up a Brand - Humble Beginnings
Imagine wandering barefoot and sun-kissed down sandy laneways lined with bohemian clothing, handmade jewellery, local art & beach trinkets!
This is the Sunday Market in Port Douglas & a big part of the inspiration for Brighton Beach Boho.
This tropical shopping paradise comes alive every week when locals gather with their homemade wares and travellers browse under the leafy mango trees.
The feeling at the Market is easy. The smell is sandalwood & sugarcane. And the ancient hum of the didgeridoo echoes across the banks of Sugar Wharf.
Bohemian to the Eye & to the Soul...Freedom & Enchantment.
It is this feeling that we try to capture in all our pieces - ‘fun, freedom, comfort & colour’. The joy of wearing some of your ‘inner’ bohemian on the outside.
We hope you enjoy the search, pick up some tropical vibes & hang with us for the journey.
A Little Background
We started making thin fabric hair scrunchies in 2016.
The motivation was to help an Aussie mum of 3 who was working with Indigenous kids in Mossman, Far North Queensland. She was teaching them to sew & earn a little income.
The scrunchies & simple beach jewellery went to markets around Victoria. And grew from there...on to designing dresses, skirts, kimonos & kaftans using high quality fabrics, beautiful embroidery work & often hand-dying techniques.
Many years travelling the world on a shoe-string grew my passion for authentic textiles & exotic jewellery. A passion that started as a young girl clunking away on the foot pedal of my Mother's Singer.
Every exquisite artefact you could imagine hangs in a market somewhere on the globe - Istanbul, Kathmandu, Mombassa, Seminyak, Old Delhi & here, in Australia, at markets like Emu Plains in Victoria & Eumundi in Queensland.
My small part is to bring some of the quality, colour & flavour of this to you, so you too can Be Your Own Bohemian at Heart.
With Love, Georgia xx
